Aliko Dangote Foundation

Our Initiatives

Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) is the private charitable foundation of Aliko Dangote. Incorporated in 1994, as Dangote Foundation, with the mission to enhance opportunities for social change through strategic investments that improve health and wellbeing, promote quality education, and broaden economic empowerment opportunities. 20 years later, the Foundation has become the largest private Foundation in sub-Saharan Africa, with the largest endowment by a single African donor.

Health

The Aliko Dangote Foundation is committed to directly reaching one million households with community-based management of acute malnutrition, which provides access to improved water and sanitation, improved behavioural change, livelihood support, strengthening locals and the national health system as well as global advocacy by 2025.

On continental partnerships, the ADF vision is not limited to Nigeria. In realising the vision for a better Africa, the Foundation is strategically supporting and working with like-minded international organisations in changing the Africa narratives.

Education

Education is the bedrock of any successful society. This why we are committed to contributing our quota to the development of education in Africa. Some of our activities include; N1 billion for Nigerian universities including N500 million for development of a business school in Bayero University and N100 million for the proposed Otuoke University in Bayelsa State.

Aliko Dangote Foundation made another critical intervention in the educational sector when it donated fully equipped rooms with capacity for housing 2160 students, built at a cost of N1.2 billion donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria.

Empowerment

To broaden empowerment opportunities for individuals and communities, we have empowered women through our micro-grant programme aimed at poverty amelioration through economic empowerment of women. The Foundation has disbursed N230 million to women in Kogi State as a micro-grant as part of the Kogi Human Capital Development initiative.

The foundation has continued its initiative and is set to empower an additional 106,000 women across four states in Northern Nigeria, with a sum of N1.1 billion. The Aliko Dangote Foundation has already commenced the identification of eligible beneficiaries, towards the implementation of the programme across these states and will be actively targeting and empowering thousands of women across Northern Nigeria.

Humanitarian Relief

In order to support international humanitarian efforts and alleviate the suffering of communities displaced by natural disasters, ethno-religious crises or several other disasters, we have taken several initiatives in humanitarian relief. Some of our activities include donating relief materials worth N50 million to community leaders in Jos, following a prolonged ethno-religious crisis in 2010.

The Foundation also donated $2 million to the World Food Programme as part of efforts to help Pakistani nationals devastated by floods in the year 2010.
